Ride that bull

I have an inordinate love of the movie Urban Cowboy. Little did I realize that there is a full-fledged Gilley’s-esque country Valhalla right in my midst at Cadillac Ranch. When I found out they had a mechanical bull, I knew I had to try it.

Bud: Ask me, “How do you become a bull rider?”

Friend: How do you become a bull rider?

Bud: You take a handful of marbles, and you put ‘em in your mouth. You go out to Gilley’s, and you ride that bull, and every time you ride that bull you spit out one of those marbles, and when you’ve lost all your marbles, that’s when you’re a bull rider.

Getting on the bull was the hardest part. I was too short to get on easily, and then I jumped too much and slid off the other side a couple of times. I finally got the hang of it, though.

On my first ride, I made a classic rookie mistake, taking off my hat and trying to go one-handed. I hit the inflatable deck quickly. Second ride: a little better. Third ride: a little better again, but the guy still threw me very easily.

The video:

It was a blast. Afterwards, we played pool. We toyed with the idea of line dancing. Maybe next time.

  8. OMG! I LOVE this. I have always wanted to ride a mechanical bull. I have this image in my head of what I would look like… I suspect the reality would not live up to the expectation.

  14. Great post, Marcy, and congrats for giving it a try.

  15. Joell says:

That looks like so much fun!! My son likes to ride the mechanical bull at our county fair every year. He gets better every time! And I agree with Kenya on the side view! LOL. TALU

  16. I’d end up with whiplash for sure, but if I came across one, I don’t think I could resist the urge to try it! Good for you!! 🙂

  17. Yay for you!! I have never tried that but it does look challenging. It must be a lot harder than it looks like it would be. (talu)

  18. Kerry says:

I kind of want to try it just to see if I could do it, but I’m afraid it would end up all over the internet, and it probably wouldn’t look good for my teaching career lol. I would definitely also have trouble getting on it. I’m only 5ft!
