I have an inordinate love of the movie Urban Cowboy. Little did I realize that there is a full-fledged Gilley’s-esque country Valhalla right in my midst at Cadillac Ranch. When I found out they had a mechanical bull, I knew I had to try it.
Bud: Ask me, “How do you become a bull rider?”
Friend: How do you become a bull rider?
Bud: You take a handful of marbles, and you put ‘em in your mouth. You go out to Gilley’s, and you ride that bull, and every time you ride that bull you spit out one of those marbles, and when you’ve lost all your marbles, that’s when you’re a bull rider.

Getting on the bull was the hardest part. I was too short to get on easily, and then I jumped too much and slid off the other side a couple of times. I finally got the hang of it, though.
On my first ride, I made a classic rookie mistake, taking off my hat and trying to go one-handed. I hit the inflatable deck quickly. Second ride: a little better. Third ride: a little better again, but the guy still threw me very easily.

The video:
It was a blast. Afterwards, we played pool. We toyed with the idea of line dancing. Maybe next time.
#19. 101 things in 1001 days. Ride a mechanical bull.

I’m soooo jealous!!! That has been on my list of things to do forever but I can’t find a place that does it. Looks like you had a great night! x Sammy

Looks like you had a blast
Isn’t that so much fun! I did it YEARS ago! I had the same problem getting up on it too (I’m only 5’3″). I didn’t stay on very long at all but laughed the entire time!
Congrats!

Fabulous!! What a great idea, and what a list! I’m so glad you linked that up at Rub Some Dirt On It. I hope you come back next week and inspire all of us to be daring again!
Thanks, Becky! You had such a great idea for a blog hop!
I have ridden a mechanical bull. My only tip would be to hang on with both hands and wear a really good bra….

Good advice!
Riding the bull is something I have always wanted to do, but I am waiting for Hell to freeze over!
You do make it look like fun though.

I’d like to read about you riding one.
Thanks for visiting.
OMG! I LOVE this. I have always wanted to ride a mechanical bull. I have this image in my head of what I would look like… I suspect the reality would not live up to the expectation.
Visiting via the Rewind.
lol. I didn’t quite look like Debra Winger, and that’s what it looked like in my head. Most people slid off pretty quickly, looking ridiculous.
