April, May, and June, 2011
As I look back on my first three months of trying to complete 101 things in 1001 days, sensations spring to mind: shooting a zombie in the face, hugging a full-grown hot dog man, crunching bean sprouts in my oatmeal, hearing the nostalgic hiss of a vinyl record, ruing my confused ineptitude during a Zumba class, getting flung off an enormous fake bull.… It’s been a thrill so far!
Tasks I accomplished:
#4: Shoot a gun. (Die, Zombie Becky!)
#17: Try Zumba.
#21: Make eggplant lasagna.
#25: Influence a person to make a Day Zero list.
#38: Don’t complain about anything for a week.
#43: Try at least five new recipes while eating vegetarian for a week.
#68: Get a graphic that represents “(Don’t Be) Too Timid and Squeamish” (I made the header.)
#69: Visit at least three “Road Food” places I have never been to. (The Connecticut Hot Dog Tour)
#76: Eat a cheeseburger at Louis’ Lunch.
#77: Make my own hummus.
#80: Complete at least one other athletic challenge. (Planks challenge)
#81: Cook something with tofu or tempeh.
#82: Visit at least five “Roadside America” attractions.
#94: Eat french fries topped with sweet mango chutney mayo.
#100: Have another oyster pan roast at Grand Central Oyster Bar.
Tasks I am working on:
#2: Do 50 consecutive push-ups.
#13: Listen to 10 classic albums all the way through.
#14: Watch all of IMDb’s Top 250 Movies.
- The Third Man. (Enjoyed this.)
- The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. (“Badges? We ain’t got no badges. We don’t need no badges. I don’t have to show you any stinking badges.”)
- Das Boot (Loooooonnnggg! I struggled to stay awake through two DVDs of this!)
- The Prestige (Enjoyed this.)
- The Great Dictator (Enjoyed this.)
- The King’s Speech (Enjoyed this.)
- Touch of Evil (Long and boring, with some good spots.)
- How to Train Your Dragon (OK.)
- Dial M for Murder (Enjoyed this.)
- Mary and Max (A treat!)
- Kind Hearts and Coronets (Pleasantly surprised.)
- Let the Right One In (Very creepy!)
#32: Walk 10,000 steps a day for an average of six days a week.
#49: Try at least five savory oatmeal recipes.
- Savory oatmeal with fried egg and parmesan
- Mediterranean savory oatmeal
- Curried oatmeal with caramelized onions
- Oatmeal congee
#53: Eat meatless at least one day a week on average.

What a clever, entertaining and fun-spirited blog. I’m so glad you stopped by my fb page and commented otherwise I’m not sure when I would have found you. Thanks for making me smile. I’ve promised myself that sometime in the next few years when the kids are bigger and I feel like I can make a list that I can actually begin to tackle, I will do one of these life-lists. And this one is truly great. I love the way you push the limit with imagination. THanks!
