Quarterly report #2: 101 things in 1001 days

July, August, and September, 2011

With a trip to Greece and a hurricane, the last three months have been a whirlwind, and I got a lot done on my 101 things in 1001 days list. Now that I’m back to teaching and heading into fall, I’m sure things will slow down. Here’s a recap of the last three months.

  • Proudest moment: Completing 50 consecutive push-ups
  • Most n00bie moment: Floundering through World of Warcraft

Tasks I accomplished:

#2. Do 50 consecutive push-ups.

#28. Visit a new UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Parthenon

#23: Eat pizza at Pepe’s.

#29: Bake bread from scratch again.

#39. Go to Greece.

Woman on Syros

#42: Have a Philly cheesesteak in Philly.

#45. Have dinner by candlelight.

#49. Try at least five savory oatmeal recipes.

  • Fifth: Basil pesto oatmeal

#60. Get a pedicure.

FishMe Spa, Mykonos

#74: Make butter.

#88. Give away or throw out the collection of stained glass pieces and scraps in the basement.

#93. Go to the beach again.

#97. Make another Shutterfly book.

#99. Give up caffeine for a day.

#101: Complete a video game challenge set by my kids.

Tasks I am working on:

#14: Watch all of IMDb’s Top 250 Movies.

  • City of God (Loved it–had actually already seen it, though, and watched it again)
  • King Kong (Screaming at its finest)
  • Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (I wish filibusters were still like this!)
  • All About Eve (Enjoyed it)
  • The Thing (Dreadful–how is this on the list?)
  • Night of the Hunter (Great first half)
  • Harvey (Enjoyed it)
  • The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Enjoyed it)
  • The Killing (Enjoyed it)
  • Nights of Cabiria (Enjoyed it)
  • Ben-Hur (Enjoyed it)
  • Stalag 17 (OK)
  • Witness for the Prosecution (Oops, I only got halfway through this before it got deleted from my Tivo; I’ll have to get it again.)
  • The Secret in Their Eyes (Enjoyed it)
  • Infernal Affairs (The Departed is based on it; enjoyed it)

#24: Comment on 50 random blogs. (15/50)

#32: Walk 10,000 steps a day for an average of six days a week. The streak continues.

#53: Eat meatless at least one day a week on average.

Meatless bento

#55. Play, give away, or throw out each of the 32 board games in my basement. (1/32)

#96: See at least five live shows. (1/5)

Wow, you’re doing great! It really makes me want to make up a list of my own. 50 push-ups will definitely NOT be on it. I’m in awe of you! I can’t do 5 with decent form. You go, girl!

  2. Gurl…you are killing that list! AWESOME! I’really need to hit mine hard again. I have a few things that take awhile that I’m working on though 😀

  3. I LOVE this entry! Especially the part where your boys got you to dip a toe into the “World of Warcraft”! My husband tried to get me to play that…lol…now he doesn’t even play it anymore. I want to see the world but I’ve never known where to start. You’ve given me some really good foundation to begin to build a plan on. Especially the “start out small” approach. I’ve always wanted to go to Europe but I never occurred to me to go to places to start out that spoke English. I just always assumed I’d pick up the language quickly…lol…even though I never did in middle school! Lol… We’ve always planned for Scotland but never go. I think it is time to take the plunge! The water is warm lol!! =)
