Quarterly report #3: 101 things in 1001 days

October, November, and December, 2011

I am nine months into my project to complete 101 things in 1001 days with 41 tasks done and 60 more to go; I definitely slowed down during the last few months. Still, progress is progress. With pickles dipped in cheese, Led Zeppelin, and a curling class haiku, I had more than my share of fun!

Tasks I accomplished:

#13. Listen to 10 classic albums all the way through: In the Day of My Youth … Listening to Led Zeppelin. Finished! So much fun.

#16: Attend a New Year’s celebration; kiss at midnight: MCB on NYE.

#56. Make cheese fondue: Christmas Eve Fondue. A new Christmas Eve tradition?

#89. Adopt a word at savethewords.org: adimpleate.

Tasks I am making progress on:

#14. Watch all of IMDb’s Top 250 Movies. Movies watched:

  • Persona (Tried to like it; so boring)
  • Rebecca (Didn’t like it; liked the book though)
  • Once Upon a Time in the West (Long and slow, but great)
  • My Neighbor Totoro (Pretty cool)

#24. Comment on 50 random blogs. I made a lot of progress.

#32. Walk 10,000 steps a day for an average of six days a week: Still Stepping. The streak lives!

#53. Eat meatless at least one day a week on average. (Working on this, Meatless Monday updates here.)

Thanks. That’s funny because I am a movie nut and lately I haven’t wanted to watch any movies! Does putting it on a list make it a chore that I don’t want to do?

Powering through the list. My reading has really slowed lately – I can read magazines no problem, but getting into a book seems a much harder task – and I love reading!

lol … I wanted to read 10 autobiographies and I am not able to go past the first two pages. It’s soooooooooooooo difficult. Common problem I guess :)

I just happened upon your blog and found it both interesting and inspirational. I especially enjoyed “I am not Rebecca–a sort of book review.” I have taught the book Rebecca for the past 11 years, and I, too, find the beginning tedious. The book also provides me the opportunity to discuss literary license, as du Maurier had an affinity for the run-on sentence. That said, I do love teaching the book. The discussions about class, appearances, insecurity, the blurry line between right and wrong, etc., all make for lively, thought-provoking instruction.

Good luck with the 101 list. I think it’s great that you push yourself out of your comfort zone. Accordingly, I bet you’ve opened up a whole new world for yourself.
