Beef Bourguignon, a Daring Cooks challenge
First of all, I couldn’t believe the serendipity of the red wine I picked up for making this classic French stew.
I’m a bit too young to have watched Julia Child‘s cooking show when I was growing up, so my first exposure to The French Chef was actually Dan Aykroyd’s silly skit on Saturday Night Live (which Julia reportedly got a kick out of).
Picking up a bottle of wine in a hurry, I got confused in the France section looking for an appropriate Burgundy, so I rushed over to California and picked up a Cabernet Sauvignon, which was listed as a wine that would work well in the recipe. Leaving the store, I realized that it was one of Dan Aykroyd’s wines!
Anyway…
I made this delicious beef stew on Mother’s Day.
I got everything ready and put it in the oven, and we had a few hours to go out for a wine tasting and hike for Mother’s Day while it cooked.
Bon Appetit.
Thank you to Fabi of fabsfood for hosting this Daring Cooks challenge.

The Beef Bouguignon looks delicious. It looked delicious in the movie too. ‘
btw , I tried the homemade pasta. It came very well. Though I did mess up a little in the sauce (I didnot have all the ingredients but decided to make my own sauce with yours as base). I discovered my indian taste buds needed it to be a bit more spicy
I’m so glad you liked the homemade pasta! I think it’s great that you could adjust the sauce based on what you have (and to make it spicy).
Oh my goodness, what a lovely, rich color you got on your stew. Nice job!
Wow – your boeuf bourguignon looks so rich and flavorful – BEAUTIFUL job. And how funny about the wine matching your “inspiration” on this one
How funny that you grabbed his wine! LOL!
