Quick: What’s the first thing I should do to start training for the Rugged Maniac?
- A) Get a new pair of running shoes.
- B) Stretch.
- C) Hit the pavement.
- D) Make a new playlist.
Once the correct answer, D, was completed, I was ready to start. I chose some songs I hadn’t heard in a while that always get me going.
The Off the Beaten Path (and Couch) Playlist
I am happy to report that I completed my first week of running (well, jogging and walking), and it went great. I am using the “Couch to 5K” schedule. I’ve used it in the past, and it is a great way to get yourself ready for running. It starts slowly by alternating between walking and short sections of running. I started on Week 3 this time since my 10,000 steps a day have been keeping me from being as much of a couch potato as I’ve been in the past.
What’s on your ultimate exercise playlist?

I struggle with chronic fatigue, so when I need to get moving I need super strength pump-me-up music. The stuff that gets me going the most is the music I used when I led aerobics a little over ten years ago. More than a few techno songs, I’ll admit. Dr. Jones by Aqua. Who Let the Dogs Out by Baha Men. It’s My Life by Bon Jovi. Zombie by the Cranberries (techno). Kiss the Rain by Billie Myers (techno). Independent Woman by Destiny’s Child. Move Your Body by Eiffel 65. Music by Madonna. Spderwebs by No Doubt. There You Go by Pink. Try Again by Aaliyah.
Now that I’ve looked them up and typed them up, I can feel my muscles itching to get moving. Guess I better do it.
Stopping by from SITS.

Thanks for adding the songs that get you going!
Oooh, you had some good ones. I’ve been doing a 5K ‘training’ thing too (the Ease into 5K app on the iPhone), with the running/walking alternating. I have to say Tubthumping by Chumbawamba, Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) by Beyonce, and good old Tina Turner doing Proud Mary get me going every time.

Nice!
Nice List and thanks for introducing me to Couch to 5K plan. Inspired to start running again. My exercising is very intermittent. hopefully this will help me.
I never could make a playlist for myself. I guess I will just borrow yours
Good luck with running! Let me know how it goes.
Marcy, Thanks for “visiting” me yesterday @fiercedivaguidetolife. I Just love this post and totally relate to it! As an avid runner, my playlist is of the utmost importance! I admire you for giving yourself challenges. Left to my own devices, I would be on the couch as well. You go girl!
