Life’s Experiments: Send me your postcard

{Celebrate your courage. Send me a postcard about how you have pushed yourself out of your comfort zone.}

“Don’t be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.”

–Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life’s Experiments

For almost two years now, I have been blogging about pushing myself out of my comfort zone, so that I don’t remain “too timid and squeamish.” I rode a mechanical bull, sang karaoke, traveled alone, ate vegan for a week, shunned the Internet.

These “life’s experiments” have changed me. I feel less timid, more open to life.

One of the biggest revelations from completing these experiments and writing about them is how much our comfort zones vary. Yes, zip lining is scary, but even more frightening to me is walking into a party alone. Some people go to movies by themselves all the time; I never have and would feel uncomfortable.

In other words, an adrenaline junkie who jumps out of an airplane may not be showing as much courage as a wallflower who asks someone to dance.

Wherever your own comfort zone is, it takes courage to push outside it.

I want to celebrate your courage in my little corner of the Internet.

Send me your postcard

Have you…

  • tried skydiving?
  • dined at a restaurant by yourself?
  • run with the bulls?

How have you busted out of your comfort zone? Share your story of success or failure (or anything in between) by creating a postcard and sending it to me. Include whatever you want on your postcard: a photo, a drawing, a collage, a description….

I will be featuring “Life’s Experiments” postcards on Mondays on my blog.

Feel free to include your name and a link to your blog or website (if you have one), or keep it anonymous. It’s up to you.
