Exciting news! I’ve just booked our next family trip. We are going to hike the Inca Trail in Peru next summer. As I explain in the video below, though, this has brought up a bit of a moral dilemma.
My other vlogs:
Vlogging prompt: Introduce us to your pet.
{Celebrate your courage. Send me a postcard.}

Aw, Chewy is cute! Better not take him to Peru with you though, someone may want to eat him!
Great advice!
We have a guinea pig and, other than the poop, it is the best pet ever. He is sweet and funny and so, so cute. I don’t think I could ever eat one of his cousins knowing how sweet our little Lucille is. (Yes, Lucille is a boy.)
I love it that Lucille is a boy. That makes him cuter somehow.
Is that why you named our boy “Sue”?
Hmmm. That really is a dilemma. But if you think about it you can become attached to just about any animal….so….
That’s true. Good point. (My son saved a tick one time that was still alive after we removed it from him, and he called it his pet. Eww.)
Noooooooooo! Don’t chewy his cousins on vaycay!!!!! Surely there is some other kind of local delicacy to sample while you are there. I’m certain there is. *sob*
OK, a pisco sour will be my local delicacy.
Awwwww, he’s SO cute! Well, I guess I can say I probably would never have eaten half the things you already have in foreign locales (yes, I’m VERY timid and squeamish in that way). Even if I would normally, I would have to draw the line on anything related to the family pet. (No dog meat in Indonesia for me.) Plus, I think Chewy would smell it on your breath when you came home and he’d turn on you.
Not my Chewie! (There are a lot of things I wouldn’t want to try!)
Inca Trail — fantastic! What a great vacation! Can’t wait to read about it and see your pictures.
As for eating what the locals eat…I’d say do it. It’s not as though you’re eating Chewie.
I know folks who have pet chickens yet frequently eat at KFC, lol.
Thanks–we’re going in the summer, so I have plenty of time to prepare. (Katahdin really crushed me!) I read about your experiences acclimating to high altitude, and we are going early before the hike to allow as much time as possible for this. As for the local food, good point about the chickens. You’ve given me something to chew on.
I agree with Patricia. Chewy is too cute!
